Places of Interest to visit near our B&B:

Bickleigh MillTiverton: A country market town with lots to offer. Swimming, Golf, Tennis are all available for the active. Tiverton Museum of Country Life for those interested in the past and Horse drawn barge trips on the canal for those who want to enjoy a peaceful few hours away from it all. A walk alongside the canal is also highly recommended.

The Canal is a country park and local nature reserve, stretching eleven miles and the visitor will often be accompanied by swans as you stroll along.

Bickleigh: Take your camera. A photo from the bridge is a must for all. The thatched cottages alongside the River Exe make a glorious back drop. The Mill dates back to the 18th century and houses a working water mill. Along with a shopping centre there is the restaurant and a few hours can be spent ambling around.

Tiverton CastleKnightshayes & Killerton are both National Trust properties and are open to the public. Please check opening times though, as they do vary throughout the year.

RHS Rosemoor at Torrington is a few miles from here, but well worth a visit. With its beautiful gardens open throughout the year, (check times) there is always something of interest to see. And a nice cup of tea in the restaurant!

To make a day of it, the Dartington Glass Factory is also in Torrington. Here visitors can have a tour of the factory (restricted times) as well as spend some time, and money, in the factory shop.

Exmoor National Park is so beautiful with so many miles to cover and so many places to see. From Lynton & Lynmouth, through to the Doone Valley (Lorna Doone story!) Porlock, Tarr Steps, Landacre. The list goes on and on... Red Deer spotting & Exmoor ponies. Take time out - it's well worth a visit.

Dartmoor National Park, in many ways so different from Exmoor, but both are so special in their own way. Haytor offers fantastic views from its top, but for the less willing walker, why not visit Princetown (outside the prison!) Postbridge or Becky Falls.

The Tarka Railway Line operates between Barnstaple & Exeter, passing through approx 39 miles of some of Devon’s most beautiful countryside. No big towns to look at, but plenty of farms, small villages and following the Rivers Taw and Torridge. From Eggesford to Barnstaple it forms part of the ‘Tarka Trail’ taken from the story of ‘Tarka the Otter’ in Henry Williamson’s classic novel.

For the more adventurous, there is also the Tarka Cycle Trail, covering over 30 miles of cycle ways, travelling along old rail lines from Braunton, through Barnstaple, Instow and Torrington to Meethe.

North Devon boast some of the best beaches in the country, so why not visit the golden sands of either Saunton, Woolacombe, Putsborough or Croyde to name but a few. Lovely for lazing around, making sand castles and all are well known for their surfing.

The South Coast is easily accessible, with Exmouth, Dawlish and Torbay all offering a variety of facilities and pleasurable activities.

The Two Moors Way is a walk that covers some 89 miles between Ivybridge in the south of Devon to Lynmouth in the North. Passing within approx 2 miles of The Oaks, join the walk for a short time or make it longer. Many people do it in stages, some over a few years! (If you’re a ‘serious walker’ and wish to stay at The Oaks as you pass through this area, we could arrange collect & drop of your luggage from/to your other ‘stops’. Please enquire)

Crealy Adventure Park offers a fun-filled family day out, with both indoor and outdoor activities for children of all ages. They also have farm animals you can get groom and feed.
